For Global Entrepreneurship Week 2022which runs from Monday 14 to Sunday 20 November, we highlight ways to develop and improve your entrepreneurial and entrepreneurial spirit alongside your studies at BU.
Join our Mini Entrepreneurship Fair on Tuesday, November 15
CareersBU will be joined by representatives from the Dorset Growth Hub, Dorset Entrepreneurs Club, Ingenuity Program and Global Team BU at Poole House on Tuesday 15 November between 9.30am and 3.30pm. During this event, you will be able to:
- Get advice on starting a business
- Learn more about self-employment and self-employment
- Discover and join community groups of entrepreneurs
- Develop your entrepreneurial spirit
- Participate in the Ingenuity Challenge.

MyCareerHub Resources for Entrepreneurs and Freelancers
A new page on MyCareerHub offers advice to BU students and alumni on starting your own business, finding funding sources, joining networking groups and communities to expand your networks, and recommendations for opportunities and events to come to develop your entrepreneurial skills.
Graduate Skills Program Resources
The Graduate Skills Program offers a structured approach to skills development through curated resources and masterclass workshops held throughout the year.
The Section “Creative and innovative skills” of the Graduate Skills Program The Brightspace Hub has online resources on how to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Our next masterclass on Wednesday November 16 will also give you an overview of the steps towards freelance status and the freelance options available to you. SUBU Sustainability Challenge
In this challenge, you will be tasked with coming up with an idea to make BU more sustainable, alone or in a team, and demonstrating how this could be integrated into BU life. You will have the opportunity to secure funding to bring your idea to life and gain experience in new skills, networking and working collaboratively which you can use to demonstrate your abilities on your CV. Learn more about the SUBU Sustainability Challenge and how to participate in the SUBU website. Applications for the 2022/23 academic year must be submitted before Friday November 18, 2022.
Join the Dorset Entrepreneurs Club
The Dorset Entrepreneurs Club is a new community for budding and experienced entrepreneurs in Dorset that aims to bring like-minded people together to make Dorset a better place. By joining the Club, you can expand your networks and attend events that will help you develop business skills and learn from others. You can register for the next event organized by the Club on Tuesday, November 22 entitled: “FAILED NIGHTS – Hear stories of business mistakes, failures and successes” via the correspondent Eventbrite page.
The Ingenuity Program
The Ingenuity program brings together students, graduates, and local community members to develop new start-up businesses that create meaningful and meaningful impact in communities. The program runs between October 2022 and June 2023 and consists of three elements which involve:
- Training and skills development to help you turn your idea into a business and prepare you to apply for funding
- An ingenuity competition where you develop a pitch with experienced mentors and pitch the idea to a jury
- A national showcase of ingenuity on Friday June 16 where the best ideas for each region are revealed.
